Abednego has over two decades of leadership experience in digital banking, payments innovation, financial inclusion, and technology across Africa’s financial services sector. As Head of Digital Channels at FirstBank, he leads the strategic development of digital platforms such as FirstMobile, 894 USSD, FirstOnline, Firstmonie Wallet, and the Bank’s international remittance services, serving over 25 million digital customers. He is currently spearheading the creation of a multi-geography SuperApp to position FirstBank as Africa’s leading financial and lifestyle ecosystem. Abednego represents FirstBank on the Committee of eBusiness Industry Heads (CeBIH), where he serves as Secretary of Industry Shared Services, playing a central role in shaping collaborative frameworks and advancing digital banking standards across Nigeria. A First Class graduate of Computer Science from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and an alumnus of HARVARD, INSEAD, IESE, and Lagos Business School, he has contributed to major industry-wide initiatives and regulatory developments, and was recognized by The Asian Banker as Nigeria’s Promising Young Banker for his leadership in expanding access to financial services across the continent.
